Remembering the Fallen

Remembering the Fallen

28 News 05/29/2021 1291

America – the land of the free and the home of the brave – has come at a great cost over many generations. This Memorial Day weekend, we here at 28 News remember, and express our deep gratitude for all those who have sacrificed their lives in service to our nation while serving in the U.S. military. The freedom that we and many others in the world enjoy today was made possible by their sacrifice.

The number of servicemen and servicewomen deaths in American wars and military operations since the Revolutionary War amounts to over 1.1 million. The National Moment of Remembrance Act of 2000 asks that at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, all Americans pause for one minute to reflect on the sacrifices made by many to provide freedom for all.

Though Memorial Day is specifically for remembering those who have died in military service to America, we also can pause in gratitude for the millions of veterans among us who have served in the military and who continue to serve in the military as well as in numerous ways in communities across our great state of Texas and the nation.

It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion – President Abraham Lincoln; November 19, 1863

From all of us at 28 News to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and to all those who currently serve to allow us to maintain that freedom, we thank you, we respect you, and we salute you! You will never be forgotten!

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,
and to the republic for which it stands,
one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee,
Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.
