GAINESVILLE - Around 1:30 p.m. Gainesville Officers were notified that a vehicle stolen in Burleson, Texas was possibly seen in the south part of Gainesville. Officers responded to the area and did locate a silver 2014 Toyota Tacoma pickup near Fairfield St. It was determined this vehicle had been stolen in a carjacking incident in which the owner was shot and later passed away.

A short time later, a white male identified as Jerry Don Elders, 29, was taken into custody near the area where the truck was located. Elders was initially arrested on outstanding an outstanding Burleson PD warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Johnson County Sheriff Office Probation Violation-Theft of Property warrant. Elders was transported to the Cooke County jail by the Gainesville Police Department personnel.

Johnson County Sheriff Office was in the process of obtaining a Capital Murder warrant against Elders. Once the warrant is signed, Elders will also be charged with that offense. The investigation into this case is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Gainesville Police Department by calling (940) 668-7777, or through Facebook at Facebook.com/GTPolice. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact the Crimes Tip Hotline at (940) 612-0000.
